This 110kV substation project was engineered for Mongolia’s severe continental climate, where extremely low winter temperatures create demanding operating conditions for outdoor electrical equipment.
We developed a cold-climate solution using primary equipment rated for operation at temperatures as low as -40°C. The secondary protection and control area was designed with upgraded thermal insulation and integrated heating systems to help ensure stable performance throughout the winter.
To shorten construction time and reduce weather-related site risks, the project made extensive use of prefabricated solutions, including preassembled secondary equipment rooms and modular foundations. This approach minimized on-site installation work and helped keep the project on schedule despite challenging conditions.
Now in operation, the substation provides dependable power support for local mining activities, urban development, and rural electricity demand, strengthening the reliability of Mongolia’s regional power network.
